Ronald McDonald visits Room 2

On Wednesday 18 June, Ronald McDonald came to Cannington School and put on a show about Road Safety for the children in Room 2.

We learnt about:
  • Walking safely on the 'house side' of the footpath
  • Crossing a driveway
  • The Kerb Drill - Stop, Look and Listen
  • Wearing a seat belt

Ronald McDonald had a big book with a story about his stripy sock that went missing from the washing line. He decides to search for his missing sock and along the way, he has to use lots of road safety rules. Miss Walker had to read the story out loud while Ronald acted it out. Finally, we found his sock... on his back!

Rural School's Cross Country

PictureIsla and Molly before their race.
On Friday 30 May we held the Rural School's Cross Country here at Cannington School.

Children from Cannington, Beaconsfield, Barton Rural, Timaru Christian, St Josephs Pleasant Point and St Andrews schools compete in the Cross Country, as we are all part of the Rural School's Cluster.

Our wonderful Friends of Cannington School put on a BBQ selling drinks, chocolate, sausages and burgers to keep all the competitors, spectators and teachers happy.

It was a fantastic day, the weather was perfect (the sun was shining!) and we are super proud of all our Cannington kids for taking part and doing their best.

Mac Holmwood finished 4th in the Year 5/6, so he qualifies to represent the Rural School's cluster at South Canterbury Cross Country, held at Waihi School. Ryan Paul finished 7th and Bradley Murray finished 11th. Well done boys!

Kaitlyn Murray ran well, finishing 5th in the Year 3/4 race and Molly Smith proved she was a speedster by finishing first in the Year 1/2 race. Great effort girls!

Check out our Gallery for more Cross Country pics.
